Newport Independents Party

For this project we created:

Logo / Brand / Print / Digital / Large scale

What do you get when you put together 17 people fed up with the daily grind of politics – people passionate about listening to locals and championing their voices? The Newport Independents Party, that’s what!

Newport Independents was founded in 2016, in preparation for the 2017 local election. After getting to know founders Chris Evans and Andrew Collingbourne, we got to work creating a logo that matched their vision: a bold serif ‘I’ speech bubble, representing the party’s promise to let local people have their say.

This logo, paired with Newport’s signature black and amber colour scheme, became a core element across the party’s brand. From newsletters to window posters and social media content, we helped to ensure that the party stayed consistent with their message, delivering marketing materials according to the strict timings required for an election campaign. The party managed to bag themselves four seats on the local council in their first ever election – proof that hard work and great branding get results! With rosettes firmly pinned and fists raised in the air, we can’t wait to see what Newport Independents have in store for the next election.

Working with 17 individuals over 6 wards across Newport, the challenge we faced was to keep the brand consistent whilst incorporating each members varying style, priorities and imagery.

The identity needed to be flexible enough to accommodate these differences, yet retain the party manifesto and brand recognition at first glance. With candidates footing the bill for all their own marketing costs, budget was of high importance. We made sure each member had a clear price guide on both design and print, making it easy for them to see what format and quantities they could afford.
