Nettle & Bark
For this project we created:
Brand identity / Logo / Illustration / Signage / Print / Digital
Business owners, Will and Alexia Green came to Parade to undergo a complete branding project for their new enterprise, Nettle & Bark. Nettle & Bark is a new retailer, selling house plants and accessories in their ‘city garden’ premises in Newport, as well as their online shop delivering nationwide. Nettle & Bark pride themselves on being a local, independent business using other welsh and UK based suppliers. They strive to offer a new shopping experience to the people of Newport and beyond, providing excellent service, quality goods and a wealth of knowledge in houseplant care.
The project included the creation of a bespoke logo, distinguishing colours, typefaces and tone of voice and developing an illustration and photography style to be applied to shop signage, interior graphics, printed materials and a beautiful website.
Inspired by The Victorians... and a mallard duck.
A greenhouse was the perfect symbol for The Greens’ city garden venture. Inspired by the intricacy of Victorian greenhouses, we wanted to balance the essence of traditional excellence with a bang-up-to-date look and feel. We created a colour palette of soft, chalky, natural tones similar to those found on the work of William Morris. Oh, and a Mallard duck!
A linear grid system
We designed a linear grid system from cross-sections of the logo to tie the brand together across a variety of graphics, from socials to signage.
A bloomin’ nice package.
Beautiful plants require beautiful packaging. Keeping budget in mind, we settled on kraft paper and recyclable, natural materials, stamped with the logo, with the optional extra of funky tape and stickers to give each package that 'oomph'. In the true spirit of 'Reduce, reuse, recycle', Lex and Will also reuse the packaging their plants arrive in from the wholesaler for shipping online orders!
A website with room to grow & sharp socials
To run alongside their Shopify online store we created a clean and minimal responsive website with an easy to navigate content management system built in.

With two socials-savvy clients with lots of beautiful plants to sell, sharp socials were a must. To go alongside an assortment of photographic imagery (beautiful plants sell themselves) we created a combination of posts with more generic messages so they could be reused or adapted when necessary.
